Our Equipment

Visual Field Analyser – Henson 9000

It’s essential to check your visual field regularly to identify any conditions which could affect your vision. Your field of vision is everything you see when you are looking straight ahead. If there is a defect, it could cause you problems when navigating around, this could be especially dangerous if driving. There are various eye conditions that we check for including cataracts, strokes, circulatory disorders, glaucoma, brain tumours, neurological conditions and even smoking.

Digital Slit Lamp – Haig Streit BC900

We examine your eyes with a digital slit lamp to view the interior and exterior of the eye. This can help identify tears, holes, blood leakage and detachments. It can also detect diabetic eye disease, glaucoma and papilloedema, macula degeneration, hypertension and other conditions.

Eye Pressure Measurement – iCare ic100

We test and monitor the pressure inside your eye using a non-contact tonometer. Monitoring eye pressure can help us check for conditions such as glaucoma.

Please note only selective people will use certain machines based on optometrist examinations.

Ian Hardwick

Practice owner and Optical Dispenser

I began working for Attewell Opticians July 1982, during this time I worked as a dispenser, travelling between any one of the groups practices in the West Midlands area. During this time I have built professional relationships with a high number of patients.

Early 2017 after 35 years I was approached by Martin Attewell to take over what was now 2 practices, I agreed to take over Stone Cross practice January 2018, but eventually amalgamated High street practice too.

I pride myself on running a professional yet friendly practice, making it a nice environment for patients and staff alike and enjoy the challenge of unusual and high prescriptions, giving good and cost effective advice.

I’m a born again Christian, so most of my social time I enjoy serving at my church, particularly singing in the band. I also enjoy holidays with my wife and family.

Joanne Hardwick

Joanne Hardwick

Practice Owner and Optical Assistant

I met Ian whilst working part time at Attewell Opticians in 1985, however decided not to pursue optics but to begin a career in banking, which I ended up doing for 30 years.

When Ian was given the opportunity to take over, we decided to put our heart and soul into running the business as a partnership, hence giving up my time in banking.

I assist Ian with doing all the book keeping and pay role and on occasions filling in as a receptionist when short staffed. I’m also a born again Christian and enjoying serving at our church alongside being a supportive Mom and Wife.

She is well liked by patients and staff members. On her days off we always get asked where she is and patients are really happy to see her welcoming face when she's working.

Wendy works 3 days a week now and in her spare time she loves holidaying and spending time with her family.

Komal started working for the Attewells in 2005, where she trained as an Optical Assistant. She mainly worked at the High Street practice until 2018 when she moved to Stone Cross with Ian and Wendy.

Many patients know Kom from the old practice and often ask after her If she's off.

Kom has since qualified as a Diabetic Screener in 2019 and is a self confessed perfectionist with a great work ethic.
